Jiri Mountain, April 2004

     Jiri-san National Park actually spans three provinces (North Jeolla and South Jeolla, in addition to South Gyeongsang), although South Gyeongsang has the largest portion, as well as the highest peak in the park. Ch'eonwhang-bong peak is the second highest peak in Korea and rises 1915 meters. Even those not making it to the top have a tough climb, with over a dozen major peaks higher than 1,500 meters.

Chunhyang, April 2004

   Chunhyang, the literary heroine of a classical love story who preserved her chastity through painstaking dedication of faithfulness. Set in Namwon during the Joseon Dynasty, the “Story of Chunhyang” is about a beautiful girl born of a low-class family who falls in love with Lee Mong-Ryong, the son of the town magistrate.

    Every year a festival is celebrated in honor of Chunhyang, it is the oldest traditional cultural and art festival in Korea. Chunghyang Festival, held under the theme of the unshakable love of the Korean woman, features a memorial service dedicated to Chunhyang and various folk games with opportunities to experience diverse and vivid cultures harmonizing the traditional as well as the modern. Traditional street performances, memorial service dedicated to Chunhyang, performance of Chunhyang music, Chunghyang National Folk Music Performance, Chunghyang Beauty Contest, etc.
